MS&T Faculty Appointed as Associate Editor of ASCE Journal of Cold Regions Engineering

Dr. Jenny Liu from the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at Missouri S&T was invited to serve as associate editor of ASCE Journal of Cold Regions Engineering, which is a world’s leading peer-reviewed scientific journal in the general area of cold regions engineering published by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Established in 1987, the topics of this journal include ice engineering, ice force, construction on permafrost and seasonal frost, cold weather construction, environmental quality and engineering in cold regions, snow and ice control, cold regions materials, and surveying and planning in cold regions. Dr. Liu has been serving as an Associate Editor for another two ASCE journals (Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering and Journal of Transportation Engineering Part B: Pavements) for more than10 years.  https://ascelibrary.org/journal/jcrgei

2020-2021 CEC Dean’s PhD Scholar Award Goes to Jun Liu

Dr. Jenny Liu’s Ph.D. student, Jun Liu, from the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at Missouri S&T has been awarded the 2020-2021 CEC Dean’s PhD Scholar Award in recognition of his scholarly productivity. The college of Engineering and Computing at Missouri S&T implemented the Dean’s Ph.D. Scholar award in the 2020-2021 academic year to honor its most productive Ph.D. students. There are eight awardees from six engineering departments within the college.

Ph.D. Candidate Mehdi Honarvarnazari has received the 2021 Best Dissertation Award from both the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department and the Voiland College of Engineering & Architecture at Washington State University. Congratulations Mehdi!

Dr. Issam Harik wins prestigious ACI Design Award

Professor Issam Harik, a member of the TriDurLe Advisory Committee, won the prestigious ACI Design Award bestowed by the American Concrete Institute: “Improving The Durability Of Impact Damaged Pc Bridge Girders Using CFRP Rod Panel Retrofit”, SP331-06, February 2019, pp. 80-100.

The award recognizes advanced concepts and techniques applied to a specific design project. Awards are given to the author or coauthors of the paper and to the engineer or engineering firm responsible for the design. Congratulations, Professor Harik.

ACI National Convention Presentation

Dr. Chris Pantelides recently made a presentation at the ACI National Convention on Oct. 25 2020, whose theme was Emerging Connections for Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC). The presentation was web-based.

His presentation was titled: ABC Bridge Column-Footing Connections with Recessed Grouted Splice Sleeve Connectors. There were 55 attendees.

Tazarv & Hart Awarded Research Fellowship

Dr. Mostafa Tazarv and student Kallan Hart (of South Dakota State University have been awarded the Dennis R. Mertz Bridge Research Fellowship for 2020-21 by PCI for their research fellowship proposal “Repairable Precast Bridge Bents for Extreme Events.” Congratulations! The researchers will be working on this project in collaboration with Gage Brothers Concrete Products and TriDurLE.
