Dr. Xiong Zhang, Professor in Geotechnical Engineering at Missouri S&T, was invited to give a keynote speech on “Recent Advances in Measuring Volume Changes of Unsaturated Soil Specimen During Triaxial Testing” at 3rd Pan-American Conference on Unsaturated Soils – Pan-American Conference on Unsaturated Soils, which was held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 25-28, 2021. The conference dealt with advances in unsaturated soil mechanics and discuss current and future trends in practical applications.
Dr. Jenny Liu recently was appointed to be the Committee Communications Coordinator (CCC) for Transportation Research Board (TRB) AKT20 Committee on Pavement Preservation.
TRB is one of seven program units of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The TRB CCCs are committee members who maintain their committees’ communication portfolio and interact with other committees about communication tools. Dr Liu is also a member of TRB AKM80 Committee on Mineral Aggregates. She has served other TRB committees including AFK30, AFK50, and AFH50 for years in the past.
Xianming Shi received the 2021 Environmental Leadership Award (research category) at the 2021 Salt Symposium.
Dr. Mostafa Tazarv has been promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at South Dakota State University. He is the SDSU Site Director in the TriDurLE consortium and currently the PI on the research project Drone-Based Measurements for Bridge Field Testing – Development Phase. Congratulations, Mostafa!
Dr. Jenny Liu’s Ph.D. student, Jun Liu, from the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at Missouri S&T has been awarded the 2020-2021 CEC Dean’s PhD Scholar Award in recognition of his scholarly productivity. The college of Engineering and Computing at Missouri S&T implemented the Dean’s Ph.D. Scholar award in the 2020-2021 academic year to honor its most productive Ph.D. students. There are eight awardees from six engineering departments within the college.
Zhipeng Li has received the 2021 Outstanding Research Assistant Award within Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at Washington State University. Congratulations Zhipeng
Ph.D. Candidate Mehdi Honarvarnazari has received the 2021 Best Dissertation Award from both the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department and the Voiland College of Engineering & Architecture at Washington State University. Congratulations Mehdi!
WSU doctoral student Yan Zhang has been named the University Transportation Center (UTC) Student of the Year. Congratulations Yan!
Dr. Chris Pantelides recently made a presentation at the ACI National Convention on Oct. 25 2020, whose theme was Emerging Connections for Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC). The presentation was web-based.
His presentation was titled: ABC Bridge Column-Footing Connections with Recessed Grouted Splice Sleeve Connectors. There were 55 attendees.
Congratulations to Mehdi Hanavar Nazari for being selected by the WSU Graduate School to receive the Richard R. and Constance M. Albrecht Scholarship for the 2020/21 academic year in the amount of $1500!
