1st Symposium on Community-Smart infrastructure innovations & implementation (CSi3)

On behalf of the National Center for Transportation Infrastructure Durability & Life–Extension (TriDurLE) and University of Miami, we are pleased to announce that the First Symposium on Community-Smart infrastructure innovations & implementation (CSi3) will be held from March 2nd (Sunday) to March 5th (Wednesday), 2025 at Newman Alumni Center, University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. The theme of this symposium is “Adapting infrastructure to extreme hazards and other emerging risks”. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  1. Building resilience into infrastructure materials and structures
  2. Reducing the life-cycle carbon footprint of roads, bridges, tunnels, ports, airports, buildings
  3. Preservation and monitoring against foundational risks of the built environment
  4. Post-disaster or post-hazard recovery of infrastructure
  5. Preservation and rehabilitation against infrastructure materials-related distresses
  6. Remote sensing, online monitoring, and non-destructive evaluation of infrastructure
  7. Structural reliability and safety
  8. Infrastructure system response and resilience: robustness, recovery, resource allocation, etc.
  9. Decision support and asset management
  10. Regulatory framework and policy aspects of infrastructure resilience
  11. Social technical or system-oriented aspect of infrastructure resilience
  12. Infrastructure durability and performance in extreme climates
  13. Permafrost impacts and mitigation strategies for transportation infrastructure
  14. Challenges in materials and design for remote and Arctic infrastructure resilience
  15. Humanitarian shelter and settlements

The main objective of the symposium is to provide a forum for professionals (from academia, industry, and government) to discuss infrastructure challenges and solutions, facilitating a productive peer exchange and a showcase of recent developments, practices, and advances. Participants can present either existing research or ideas associated with the symposium theme.

PDH certificate will be provided for professional development purposes. Students will be able to interact with researchers and practitioners and win the best poster awards.

The posters should be prepared by students/young professionals based on their own research work. Advisor(s) and co-worker(s) of students/young professionals may be included as co-authors; however, students/young professionals must be the lead authors and the posters must be presented by the competing students/young professionals at the workshop.
Creativity and originality in presenting the technical contents of the posters are encouraged. Any topic related to this year’s theme – “All serve to inform strategies for adapting infrastructure to extreme hazards and other emerging risks” is welcome to present.
